How to measure your bed frame
- Measure inside the frame, where the mattress sits: between the side rails and between the headboard and footboard, not the outside of the bed.
- Measure twice, at the head end and the foot end. Wooden frames are often a little out of square, so use the smaller number.
- Round down to the nearest inch. A mattress slightly smaller than the frame fits; one slightly bigger doesn't, and foam mattresses can't be trimmed.
- Check the height on storage beds. On a hydraulic or box storage bed, a very thick mattress can stop the lid from opening fully or rise above a low headboard.
Common mattress sizes in India
- Single: 72, 75 or 78 inches long and 30, 35, 36 or 42 inches wide
- Double: 72, 75 or 78 inches long and 47 or 48 inches wide
- Queen: 72, 75 or 78 inches long and 60 or 66 inches wide
- King: 72, 75 or 78 inches long and 70, 72 or 78 inches wide
